It is important to note that the name AbleChild was deliberately chosen in recognition of the National Defense Education Act of 1958, signed into law by President Dwight D. Eisenhower on September 2, 1958. The Act was intended to strengthen education and help ensure that America developed the skilled, educated citizens needed to meet critical national needs.
AbleChild’s own history specifically connects its name to the Act’s recognition of “able” children and the need to make meaningful education available while encouraging self-reliance. AbleChild maintains that the original intent of supporting the able student has been diverted over time, including by shifting emphasis and resources away from educational advancement and toward institutionalized mental-health approaches.
That history matters. AbleChild’s mission remains centered on protecting children from unnecessary psychiatric labeling and drugging, defending the rights of parents and caregivers, and demanding transparency from the systems entrusted with children’s futures. AbleChild is a nationally recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit.
Standing With Independent Journalism
AbleChild is honored to stand with Gateway Pundit founder Jim Hoft and his brother, author and journalist Joe Hoft. Jim Hoft built The Gateway Pundit into a prominent independent conservative news outlet.
