Coalition of States Target Gun Manufacturers and Ignore Psychiatric Drug Epidemic Linked to Mass Killings

As the United States faces simultaneous challenges on various fronts, including economic recovery, a public health crisis, and geopolitical tensions, the decision by the State of Maine to  consider joining action against gun manufacturers is shocking considering the failed investigation into the mass killing in Lewiston, Maine.  This type of lawsuit is yet another attempt to blame the guns for the violent behavior of the perpetrator and deflect attention away from the known serious psychiatric adverse side effects of mental health “treatments.”

It is ironic that lawmakers don’t use the same standard of placing blame on psychiatric drugs as they do with gun manufacturers but, rather, continue to protect the prescribing psychiatrists and Big Pharma.  The people cannot compete with having multiple lobbyists of “stakeholders” who support the well-funded parent groups, as in the case of Sandy Hook Promise, who have unlimited funds to do the bidding on pet political issues like the anti-gun lobby.

The Fall of Psychiatry in Maine Over Mass Killings?

Remember Robert Card?  The former military man that was treated by the U.S. Army for mental health and was referred to a civilian facility called Four Winds Psychiatric Hospital in Katonah, New York, and after getting that “help” went on a killing spree in Lewiston, Maine?

According to the independent news outlet, Katie Hawkinson,  “spoke to experts” about the transfer of Card’s brain to Boston University to test it for Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) caused by repetitive head trauma.  Results won’t be in for six to eight months.  Not surprisingly, the article makes it sound like the powers that be are prepping the public that no CTE will be found.

In the meantime, Maine has bought over decades, at taxpayer’s expense, millions of dollars in behavioral health contracts from a billion-dollar behavioral industry that stigmatizes their own clients with labels and then pumps them with dangerous mind-altering drugs that are linked to suicide and violence.  Amazingly, the flow of behavioral health legislation is written by the industry itself and implemented by the State.

Iowa Mass Shooting – Are the Police in the Pocket of Big Pharma & the Mental Health Industry?

LinkedIn Posting of Sheriff Adam Infante at Dallas County Sherriff’s Office Mental Health Training, reflecting 2019 suicide data.

The introduction of behavioral health training for police officers has been hailed as a positive step towards improving law enforcement response to the overwhelming mental health crisis of suicides and mass murders.  However, beneath the well-intentioned initiative lies a complex landscape of challenges and unintended consequences that need to be investigated.

What does the Governor of Maine & Matthew Perry have in common?  A drug called Ketamine.

The death of Matthew Perry, due to the acute effect of Ketamine, has brought international attention to the use of the drug within the psychiatric industry.  Ketamine, primarily known as an anesthetic, has shown potential in ameliorating depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation according to Missouri Medicine: The Journal of the Missouri State Medical Association, but wait, according to the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) there clearly is a serious down side.

There is abundant evidence that psychiatric drugs cause violence; 22 international drug regulatory warnings cite psychiatric drugs causing violent reactions, including mania, hostility, violence, aggression, and homicidal ideation.  Between 2004 and 2012, there were 14,773 reports to the U.S. FDA’s MedWatch system on psychiatric drugs causing violent side effects including: 1,531 cases of homicidal ideation/homicide, 3,287 cases of mania & 8,219 cases of aggression.  Note that the FDA estimates that less than 1% of all serious events are ever reported, so the actual number of adverse side effects occurring is most certainly higher.

Mental Health Partnership puts Police Investigations at Risk

What did the treating psychiatrist know about Robert Card, the Maine shooter before the police were involved?

CNN’s “deep” reporting of Lewiston Maine shooter, Robert Card, fails to explore crucial questions about communication, collaboration, and the shared responsibility for the well-being of individuals in crisis.

When police are aware of an individual’s mental health status, it prompts a critical examination of what information psychiatrists, as mental health professionals, may possess and how this knowledge is communicated.

Law enforcement officers frequently find themselves on the front lines of interactions with individuals in various states of mental distress and too often on multiple psychiatric mind-altering drugs. Being aware of an individual’s mental health history can significantly impact the approach they take during encounters. So, it begs the questions about what the psychiatric industry knew about Robert Card prior to the shooting event and police intervention?
